What do the modes mean on my AP?
Access Point Mode
Access Point mode is used to connect to wireless clients(wireless adapter cards) such as laptops, desktops, and PDAs.Wireless clients can only communicate to AP's in Access Pointmode.
Access Point Client / Wireless Client Mode
AP Client or Wireless Client mode allows the Access Point tobecome a wireless client to another AP. In essence the AP has nowbecome a wireless adapter card. You would use this mode to allow anAP to communicate with another AP.
Note: Not all Access Points support AP Client mode. If the modeis supported it will operate only with devices of the same series.Wireless cards will not communicate with access points in AP Client/ Wireless Client mode.
Point-to-Point / Wireless Bridge
Point-to-Point / Wireless Bridge mode allows the Access Point tocommunicate with another Access Point capable of point-to-pointbridging. However, be aware that most manufacturers use proprietarysettings when enabling bridging mode in the Access Point. A typicalscenario for this selection is connecting two buildings through awireless connection.
Note: Not all Access Points support Point-to-Point / WirelessBridging mode. If the mode is supported it will operate only withdevices of the same series. Example: the DWL-900AP will communicatewith another DWL-900AP, and the DWL-900AP will communicate withanother DWL-900AP . The DWL-900AP will not communicate with aDWL-900AP in this mode. Wireless clients will not communicate toAP's in this mode.
Point-to-Multipoint / Multi-point Bridge
Point-to-Multi-point / Multi-point Bridge mode is the same asPoint-to-point / Wireless Bridge mode, however, this mode allowsyou to use more than two Access Points.
Note: Not all Access Points support Point-to-Multipoint /Wireless Bridging mode. If the mode is supported it will operateonly with devices of the same series. Example: the DWL-900AP willcommunicate with another DWL-900AP, and the DWL-900AP willcommunicate with another DWL-900AP . The DWL-900AP will notcommunicate with a DWL-900AP in this mode. Wireless clients willnot communicate to AP's in this mode.
As a Wireless Repeater, the Access Point extends the range ofthe wireless network by repeating the wireless signal of the remoteAP (Access Point). The Ethernet MAC address of the remote AP isrequired for the Access Point to act as a wireless rangeextender.

If the modeis supported it will operate only with devices of the same series.Example: the DWL-1000AP will communicate with another DWL-1000AP ,and the DWL-900AP will communicate with another DWL-900AP . TheDWL-1000AP will not communicate with a DWL-900AP in this mode.Wireless clients will communicate to APs in this mode.
The Wireless Distribution System (WDS) mode is similar to theBridge mode. In WDS mode you can get your Access Points tocommunicate with each other wirelessly. Note that in this mode theaccess ponts will not communicate with wireless clients.
WDS with AP Mode
This mode allows your Access Points to communicate with eachother wirelessly and at the same time allows wireless clients toconnect to the network.
