Mediglia is a town in Italy with a population of 12,235. It is part of the metropolitan area of Milan in Lombardy. Its municipal offices are in Triginto. Mediglia is a rural settlement with a history stemming back to ancient times, when the town was comprised of the districts of Melegnanello and Triginto only. In the Napoleonic era (1809), the towns Colturano and Robbiano were aggregated into the Mediglia district. Two years later the towns Bustighera, Canobbio, Gavazzo, Mercugnano and Vigliano were also added.

Challenge

Monitoring and surveillance of Piazza Terracini and adjacent areas, including the children's playground and the new car park, with a solution that strikes the right balance between quality and price. In addition, the images captured by the cameras are to be saved on a local video recorder, but without a direct connection between the cameras and the recorder.

Solution

D-Link has provided a comprehensive CCTV solution using Outdoor Full HD WDR PoE Day/Night Fixed Bullet Network Cameras, which, thanks to a collaboration with the system integrator Solution System S.r.l. from Assago, have been positioned at strategic locations and connected to a central location using radio links. This central location contains a digital recorder for recording images.

"Administrating a town," says Giovanni Carmine Fabiano, deputy mayor of Mediglia, "means guaranteeing safety as well as providing services and maintaining the order and appearance of public goods. Unfortunately these days it's increasingly difficult to control the devastating acts of vandalism that deface and destroy areas that should serve as meeting places for citizens. The idea of physical checks by an employee on-site 24 hours a day is pure fantasy, which means that we had to invest in new technological infrastructures available on the market. They can replace a person and perform careful, thorough and continuous work in quickly identifying those responsible for what is now the most common crime in our territory. The result? Julius Caesar said "veni, vidi, vici" ("I came, I saw, l conquered"), and I think that this quote is perfect to describe the effect of CCTV in our public areas."
