Introduction

The technology company Prinex, which belongs to the Shebel group has been developing management solutions for the real estate sector for more than 28 years. Its ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software is currently the global business solution with the highest number of facilities in the sector; this attains 80% market share and serves more than 10,000 active users.

Challenge

Prinex has expanded its central office in Madrid to more than 500 m². The change is bringing with it an upgrade to network infrastructure and communications. The aim was to migrate the former Ethernet 10/100 network to a network with higher bandwidth and many more users. And especially, the possibility for growth. Moreover, it was necessary to deploy the telephony network by means of Power Over Ethernet and IPVo.

During initial conversations between Luis Giménez, from our integrated partner VIP+, SPW S.L and Paz Ballesta, IT manager from the end client, Prinex, we saw the need to increase the bandwidth to 10 Gb for connection with data servers, which is essential for a company that develops software solutions. Once the project was discussed, we opted for D-Link solutions because they could facilitate our integration and, especially, because it was a very balanced proposal in terms of cost/provisions by also including the network Core equipment.

Solution

  • 5 x DGS-3420-28PC stacked with the 10Gb stack cable DEM-CB100s, and support for PoE for the IP Telephony network.
  • 2 x DXS-1210-16TC to join servers at 10 Gb with copper and be able to join the stack at 10 Gb by SFP+.
  • 7x DEM-CB100S.

Result

Deployment of the new infrastructure was quick because D-Link solutions was able to facilitate centralised administration. All support matters that arose during installation were quickly seen to by SPW or scaled to the manager, D-Link, which offered consultancy during all the project's phases.

After this update, Prinex has a Gigabit/10 Gigabit network with a broad density of ports and optimal scalability for growth of the network. As for IT administration, use of functionalities in layer 3 of the Enterprise Managed Switches DGS-3420 dedicated to the network Core, is notable. Among other functions, they have enabled the VLAN network segmentation to separate the local network from the guest Wi-Fi network for security reasons. Moreover, the Power Over Ethernet functionality has enabled installing the entire network of IP Voice telephones with the flexibility and cost savings brought by electrical supply by the same data network cable. For its part, the DXS-1210 has enabled working at 10 Gb for the critical link to Data Centre servers.
